French cement company found guilty of financing terrorism

For the first time ever, a multinational company has been found guilty of financing terrorism and violating international sanctions. A French court ruled that LaFarge, which makes cement, paid terrorist groups, including Daesh, a total of 6.5 million dollars in protection money to keep its plant open in northern Syria during the country’s civil war. The company’s former CEO, Bruno Lafont, was also given a six-year prison sentence for his part in the scandal, which was the subject of a TRT World investigation, as Paul Hawkins reports.
