Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Thursday that it targeted a US airbase in Kuwait in response to an American aerial strike near Bandar Abbas Airport in southern Iran.
Later, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said Thursday on the social media platform X that Iran had launched “a ballistic missile toward Kuwait” at 10:17 p.m. ET (0217 GMT) on Wednesday, and that the missile was “successfully intercepted by Kuwaiti forces.”
It also said that the US intercepted six Iranian drones, five of which “posed a clear threat in and near the Strait of Hormuz.”
The latest strikes came after CENTCOM earlier this week confirmed a previous round of what it described as “defensive” strikes in southern Iran, targeting missile launch sites and Iranian boats allegedly attempting to lay mines.
In recent days, the United States and Iran have repeatedly accused each other of violating the ceasefire.
