Israeli ministers, Knesset members, and other officials laid the cornerstone for a new illegal settlement, Emek Dotan, on land belonging to the Palestinian town of Arraba near Jenin in the occupied West Bank. The move comes as part of a comprehensive plan to establish 18 new illegal settlements in the north of the occupied West Bank ahead of legislative elections this summer. Palestinian officials described the ceremony as a major escalation in illegal Israeli settlement expansion that could restrict Palestinian farmers’ access to fertile agricultural land and increase pressure on Palestinian residents to leave. The project comes amid intensified Israeli provocations in the Jenin area, including land seizures, road construction, tree uprooting, and the expansion of settlements and outposts.
