Moroccan authorities detained 111 migrants on August 15 after an attempted mass crossing from the northern city of Fnideq into Spain’s Ceuta.
Security forces prevented hundreds of migrants from reaching the border, with authorities deploying additional personnel, surveillance drones and intervention vehicles.
The attempted crossing came after anonymous social media calls urged migrants to head toward Ceuta and Melilla on August 15.
The border area has seen previous large-scale crossing attempts, including one in late July that Moroccan authorities estimated involved around 40,000 people. Moroccan officials said 14 people died, while Spanish figures put the death toll at 80.
