On Saturday, a major art heist took place in Italy as thieves managed to take off with four Renaissance paintings from a museum in Messina, Sicily. This happened just months after three paintings worth some 9 million euros by artists Renoir, Cézanne, and Matisse, were stolen from a museum near Parma, in northern Italy. Italian police said the three paintings stolen in March were recently recovered during a search of an apartment close to the museum. DW asked Arthur Brand, an expert who’s after the art and what happens to it once stolen.
