Ghana’s President John Mahama says Africa must reshape its relationship with the world — moving from economic dependency towards greater self-reliance and influence on global decision-making.
In this exclusive interview with Ghida Fakhry on Bigger Than Five, Mahama outlines his “Accra Reset” agenda and calls for greater African control over the continent’s resources.
“We don’t reject partnerships, but those partnerships must be on our terms,” Mahama says, adding that “Africa’s prosperity is not a threat to anybody.”
Mahama also discusses the push for reparations for the transatlantic slave trade, addresses the war in Gaza — calling it a genocide — and criticises what he describes as double standards in international justice.
“As long as we continue to distort justice, depending on who it is, we’ll continue to live a lie,” he says.
From economic independence to reforming global institutions and securing permanent African representation on the UN Security Council, Mahama argues that Africa must speak with one voice and play a greater role in shaping a new global order.
