The militarization of space is speeding up. On Monday, the US Space Force confirmed for the first time that it is deploying weapons in earth’s orbit. While details about the military devices and their capabilities remain thin, the move fuels the debate of a ‘space arms race’ among powers like the US, Russia and China. DW’s Gerhard Elfers talks to Antje Nötzold, space policy researcher at the Bundeswehr university, about the possibilities and risks of a militarized outer space.
