The US is preparing a $2.8 billion arms package for Israel, including tens of thousands of 2,000-pound (900kg) bombs and penetrator warheads, The Washington Post reports.
The proposed deal includes 20,000 MK-84 bombs, 20,000 BLU-117 bombs, and 20,000 I-2000 penetrator warheads.
MK-84 bombs have been widely used by Israel in Palestine’s Gaza and Lebanon, where their use has drawn scrutiny over civilian casualties, including in areas designated as safe for Palestinians.
The package would exceed previous US transfers of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel under both the Biden and Trump administrations.
Israel’s genocide in Gaza and war on Lebanon have claimed the lives of more than 80,000 people since October 2023.
