UNRWA acting Commissioner-General Christian F. Saunders thanked the “Turkish people” and the “Turkish government” for their support for Palestinian refugees as the UN agency faces an unprecedented financial crisis.
Saunders told TRT World that he needs to raise $100 million by the end of the year to avoid shutting down some operations.
Saunders said his agency continues to work under immense pressure from Tel Aviv, which refuses to issue visas to international staff and has seized multiple schools and health centres in occupied East Jerusalem.
“We have about 393 staffers who have been killed during the conflict since October 7, 2023. Many thousands have been wounded,” Saunders added
