US President Donald Trump welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping with a rare planeside greeting at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, on September 23. The welcome ceremony included a 100-foot red carpet, military platoons, and a loud flyover by B-1 bombers and and F-22 Raptor fighter jets as the two leaders exchanged handshakes.
The three-day visit marks the start of formal talks between Washington and Beijing amid heightened geopolitical tensions over trade, artificial intelligence, Trump’s war with Iran, and China’s designs on Taiwan.
