Belarus president seeks Russian help to end protests

Responding to a call for help from Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, the Kremlin says it is ‘ready to assist to resolve the challenges facing Belarus’. The country has been a close ally of Moscow, but relations have downgraded in recent years. Under pressure, Lukashenko has turned back to Moscow in the hope it will help him end growing protests.
