Two protesters in Minsk got into a heated argument over the display of the EU flag at one of the anti-Lukashenko rallies. One of the protesters insisted that the Belarusian movement for transparent elections just isn’t the place for the flag of the European Union, as it gives ground for claims that such demonstrations are funded by the West, thus tainting the opposition as inherently evil. She claimed that the presence of a foreign flag could compromise the entire point of the movement, because it allows Belarusian state media to spread disinformation and to label them as agents of yet another ‘color revolution’. Earlier this week, European Council President Charles Michel announced that the EU does not recognize the results of the Belarusian presidential elections as legitimate, and said that the EU is ready to assist a “peaceful transition of power” in Minsk.
