On July 20, 2020 a man is put on trial for carrying out an attack on a synagogue in the eastern town of Halle in October 2019. The suspect was unable to storm the synagogue, but is accused of shooting two people dead — one in the street and another in a kebab shop. The case has sparked a debate in Germany about the security of its Jewish citizens.
