Edinburgh-born Enlightenment philosopher David Hume was so clever, he went to university at the age of 10. Now, he’s been unceremoniously kicked out. Edinburgh University, which had named its biggest eyesore of a building after him, has caved in to students’ demands and renamed its faculty building, because Hume (like most people of his day, unfortunately) was a flaming racist. He also practically invented critical thinking, which underpins well… science. Cancel culture gone wrong or the right decision? Polly Boiko takes a look!
