The US says it won’t support any Israeli plans to conduct a major military operation in Rafah. White House spokesman John Kirby warned that doing so would be a disaster for more than a million Gaza residents who are taking shelter there. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the military would soon enter Rafah to target Hamas, calling it one of the militants’ last remaining strongholds.
