Israel and Iran faced off at a heated UN security council session called by Israel after Iran launched missiles and drones at Israel in response to an attack on an Iranian consular building in Damascus. Israel’s envoy to the UN told the council: ‘This attack crossed every red line, and Israel reserves the legal right to retaliate. We are not a frog in boiling water.’ Iran’s ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, said Israel’s attack on its consulate was an ‘unjustified criminal and terrorist act’ and his country was not seeking further escalation.
