Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has said he cannot accept ending war in Gaza now because it would keep Hamas in power. His remarks come as Hamas officials held a second day of ceasefire talks with Egyptian and Qatari mediators in Cairo, where one of the main sticking points appeared to be whether any deal would be temporary or permanent.
