The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and his cabinet ministers were heckled on Monday at Memorial Day ceremonies held in honour of fallen soldiers and Israeli civilian victims of hostilities. A person called Netanyahu ‘garbage’ as he ended his speech addressing bereaved families in Jerusalem. The man, whose voice was heard shouting as Netanyahu stepped down to the audience seats, was asked by members of the public to keep quiet, but replied, ‘there is nothing to respect, he killed my children’. In another incident, a woman was seen shouting at a far-right member of Netanyahu’s cabinet, the national security minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, as he was taking the stand to address a military ceremony for fallen soldiers in the southern city of Ashdod. The woman pointed fingers at him and shouted ‘He’s a criminal.’ During the beginning of his speech, shouts from the crowd could be heard.
