England’s largest temperate rainforest has become a protected nature reserve, marking it as an area of focus for conservation.
Borrowdale Valley in Cumbria regularly sees the highest rainfall in England and has a rare biodiverse habitat. It is an ideal breeding habitat for declining birds and native red squirrels.
It was declared a national nature reserve by Natural England and the National Trust.
