Three police officers were injured and 40 people were arrested during a pro-Palestine protest in Westminster, central London, on Tuesday night, Scotland Yard said.

One officer was left with a serious facial injury after she was hit by a bottle thrown from the crowd. The demonstration began at about 6pm and was required to end at 8pm, police said. Most of the crowd of about 10,000 people left Whitehall without incident but approximately 500 remained and police began making a number of arrests for failing to comply
