The Israeli army says it has rescued four hostages in the Gaza Strip. According to the statement, among them are three men and one woman who had been held in captivity since the October 7 Hamas terror attacks. Military spokesman Daniel Hagari said all four are in good health.
The military spokesman said hundreds of Israeli soldiers were involved in the operation that took place in the refugee settlement of Nuseirat. The hostages were rescued from two houses in a residential neighborhood, Hagari said on Israeli television.
At least 210 Palestinians were also killed and around 400 wounded in Israeli strikes on the al-Nuseirat refugee camp, where the rescue operation took place, according to the Hamas-run Gaza government media office.
DW correspondent Tania Krämer reports from Jerusalem on the background of the military operation and the reactions in Israel.
