Hundreds of pro-Palestinian anti-war protesters gathered outside the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre to protest the Land Forces International Land Defence Exposition.
Police and riot squads intervened violently against the protesters, using tear gas, rubber bullets and PAVA powder, a synthetic compound similar to capsicum or pepper spray that is dispensed from a can in liquid form. Greens MP Gabrielle de Vietri who attended the protest called the police response "disgusting" and "uncalled for."
