‘Eurofighter Typhoon’: Germany’s jet sale to Turkey conditioned on foreign policy alignment

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is in Istanbul for talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Their meeting comes amid strained relations between Germany and Turkey. The countries disagree on a range of issues, especially the ongoing war in Gaza. At the same time, the two NATO allies have been working closely together when it comes to migration policies and trade.
Unnamed government sources in Germany have said the German Ministry of Defense is reconsidering the sale of ‘Eurofighter Typhoon’ fighter jets to Turkey due to its geopolitical policies in the Eastern Mediterranean, which have at times created tensions with its NATO and European allies.
