Christmas approaches in Nigeria, where food distribution sites have been the scenes of deadly stampedes. At least 30 people, including four children, were killed in two separate incidents on Saturday in the capital Abuja and in the southern town of Okija. In the incident in Abuja, people surged toward the gates of a church hours before a planned food distribution event. These deadly incidents followed another stampede earlier this week, in which 35 school children were killed. The victims in both incidents on Saturday were mostly women and children who were trampled as crowds tried to reach the provisions being distributed.
