Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau, announces his response to US tariffs coming into immediate effect by implementing "25% tariffs against $155bn worth of American goods".
Speaking at a conference in Ottawa, Mr Trudeau says the US government has "chosen to launch a trade war that will harm American families" and there is "absolutely no justification or need for these tariffs".
He then directs a message to President Trump saying "we should be working together". He continues to say, "even though you are a very smart guy, this is a very dumb thing to do".
