90,000 Palestinians attend first Friday Prayers of Ramadan at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem

Around 90,000 Palestinian worshippers gathered at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem for the first Friday prayers of Ramadan, despite heavy Israeli fascist restrictions and a strong military presence.

Thousands of Palestinians from the occupied West Bank traveled to Jerusalem for the occasion. However, Israeli authorities imposed strict age limits, allowing entry only to men over 55, women over 50, and children under 12.

Eyewitnesses told Anadolu that the Israeli army prevented tens of thousands of Palestinians from crossing military checkpoints surrounding Jerusalem to reach Al-Aqsa. Worshippers were also required to obtain prior security clearance and undergo extensive checks at designated crossings.

For many, this was their first opportunity to enter Jerusalem since last Ramadan. Since the outbreak of the Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023, Israeli authorities had imposed a total blockade on Palestinians in the West Bank, barring them from crossing into Jerusalem or visiting Israel.
