Pope Frances emerges from convalescence to deliver Easter blessing | DW News

Pope Francis emerged from his convalescence on Sunday to deliver a blessing to thousands of worshippers celebrating Easter at St Peter’s Square in Vatican City.

He appeared on the balcony of St Peter’s basilica and waved the crowd who burst into cheers and applause. The pope then delivered a brief blessing. It was unclear whether the 88-year-old pontiff would be well enough to take part part in today’s celebration. He later took a tour through the crowd gathered in the square, in his Pope-mobile. In a rare alignment of calendars, this Easter is being celebrated by the Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox churches all on the same day.
