Germany observed its first nationwide Veterans Day this weekend. The event honors over 10 million service members past and present. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius was among those taking part in Berlin. He has praised the initiative as a long-overdue appreciation of those who have served in the German military. But peace activists organized a protest, calling Veterans Day ‘militarism in its purest form.
