The US is set to upgrade its relationship with Saudi Arabia, formally designating the kingdom a ‘major non-NATO ally’. President Donald Trump made the announcement after meeting Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the White House. The two leaders also discussed co-operation on civilian nuclear power, artificial intelligence, and expanding Saudi investment in the US. The move marks a dramatic shift in US–Saudi relations, which were strained when former President Joe Biden labelled the kingdom a ‘pariah’. Andy Roesgen reports.
