Labour’s deputy leader Lucy Powell highlighted the importance of the upcoming by-election and urged members of the party to stand as one.
"This by-election is potentially going to be a really consequential by-election – maybe the most consequential by-election of this parliament".
She used a football analogy to explain why the Labour Party have "got to get behind Keir Starmer".
"I want to make sure we are putting out the best team on the pitch week after week so that we can win those important matches"
"I’m also going to get behind Pep Guardiola as our manager and make sure that we win those crucial matches and that we go on to win the league – and I think we can do that better as one Labour team".
