Occupied West Bank land registry: Israel’s silent annexation

“The land is my soul, my identity, my existence.”

Palestinians in the occupied West Bank say new Israeli land registration and confiscation orders are threatening their land, livelihoods, and heritage.

In February 2026, Israel reinstated the land registry process in the occupied Palestinian territory after nearly six decades, following government approval of a proposal submitted by far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, Justice Minister Yariv Levin, and Defence Minister Israel Katz.

Residents and local officials in the affected areas describe what these decisions could mean for their future.
