Turkish drilling vessel Cagri Bey arrives in Somalia for first deep-sea oil exploration

Türkiye’s ultra-deepwater drilling vessel Cagri Bey has arrived in Somalia on April 9 for the country’s first overseas deep-sea drilling mission. The vessel will begin operations at the Curad-1 well, located 372 kilometres off the coast of Mogadishu.

Drilling is expected to last 288 days and reach a total depth of 7,500 metres. Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar described the mission as opening a new chapter in energy cooperation between Türkiye and Somalia. A welcoming ceremony is scheduled for Friday in Mogadishu.
