Eleven people from the Bahamas were rescued after a small plane crashed into the ocean about 128 kilometres off the coast of Melbourne, Florida on May 12. Authorities said the aircraft suffered engine failure before losing communication. All passengers survived, though three people were injured. Rescue crews pulled survivors from a life raft and flew them to safety.
