A four-month-old Palestinian infant, Ahmad Maarouf Zaid, died on July 5 after Israeli forces blocked his family from reaching a hospital in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.
Israeli soldiers delayed the family for over an hour at a military checkpoint — despite the child’s critical condition — while simultaneously firing tear gas in the area. The infant ultimately died before reaching the Istishari Arab Hospital.
Ghannam condemned the death as "a stain on the conscience of humanity," describing the incident as a direct consequence of Israeli policies that restrict Palestinian movement and obstruct access to emergency care.
Israel maintains a vast network of checkpoints across the occupied West Bank that frequently impede ambulances and patients. As of April 2026, the UN has documented 925 such movement obstacles in the territory, highlighting a persistent systemic violation of Palestinians’ fundamental right to healthcare and freedom of movement.
