US President Donald Trump told Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that Washington will remove existing sanctions, CAATSA, against Türkiye, expressing a desire to strengthen ties with strategic partners as the two leaders met on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara on 7 July.
Coordinating the move with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Trump also said he would "certainly consider" restoring F-35 fighter jet sales to Ankara, praising the Turkish defence industry, and declared the bilateral relationship stronger than ever.
