Floodwaters swept cars away in Chengde, in northern China’s Hebei province, after Typhoon Bavi brought torrential rain to the mainland. Authorities issued a red alert for heavy rainfall and urged residents to stay indoors as flooding worsened across the region. The powerful storm is expected to bring further heavy rain and increase flood risks in several provinces already saturated by earlier downpours.
