The US said it destroyed five Iranian oil tankers on Tuesday in response to the latest attacks on its warships. Tehran hit back by striking an American base in Jordan with several ballistic missiles.
Jordan’s air-defence systems have destroyed 18 of 20 ballistic missiles originating from Iranian territory, the state news agency reported on Wednesday, citing the armed forces. Some of the interceptions were visible from Damascus, Syria.
Iran said early Wednesday that it would continue to retaliate by targeting oil tankers off Kuwait and Bahrain, urging crews to leave their ships, according to the IRNA state news agency. It accused both countries of hosting US forces and assisting in the attacks.
