A group of far-right protesters disrupted the annual Palestine Fest organised in Bridgeview, Illinois. Led by white supremacist Jake Lang, the anti-Muslim group called the gathering a “Crusader rally”.
Banners displayed messages such as “Little Palestine is a disgrace”.
Nearby, hundreds of attendees enjoyed the fourth annual festival, which celebrated Palestinian food, music and culture. The region is home to the largest area of Palestinian-Americans in the country, according to the city’s mayor.
“I am disgusted by the racism, Islamophobia, and hatred displayed this past weekend by right-wing extremists at an annual Palestinian Festival. Little Palestine is a vibrant community rooted in shared humanity and one that I am proud to represent in Congress. The community will stand strong against these despicable attacks,” Congressman Chuy Garcia wrote on X.
