The Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the UN-backed government in Tripoli, and later was ratified by the Turkish Parliament. It was registered with the UN in 2020. The agreement defines maritime jurisdiction areas in the Mediterranean Sea, further strengthening Turkiye’s Blue Homeland initiative. It could pave the way for Turkiye to conduct seismic research and drilling operations in the Mediterranean.
