US first lady Melania Trump says she helped broker a localized humanitarian ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky in Ukraine’s Kherson region. The agreement aims to allow aid deliveries and civilian evacuations from the city, where residents face severe shortages of food, medicine and clean water. Melinda Haring, a senior adviser at Razom for Ukraine, a non-profit advocacy organization, joins DW News to discuss the first lady’s role and whether the deal could have broader implications for diplomacy surrounding the war.
