2026 Midterms: Most expensive election in US history

“Other democracies have much stricter restrictions on who can contribute and when they can contribute. It’s really open in the United States”

With an estimated $12 billion spent, the 2026 midterms are on track to become the most expensive election in US history.

Much of the funding is going towards television and digital advertising, with major contributors including AIPAC, Elon Musk, George Soros and Michael Bloomberg, Todd Belt, a professor at George Washington University, tells TRT World.

“The Supreme Court believes that more money is more speech, and that’s why they don’t want to restrict it,” Belt said.
