Government plans to tackle small boat crossings will "take time" the border minister has told Sky News, as the home secretary hosts an immigration summit aimed at disrupting smuggling gangs.
Speaking to Sky News Breakfast, Angela Eagle said: "It’s not going to happen tomorrow because this is a mature operation that’s taken years to put in place."
When asked about Germany considering using the asylum facilities in Rwanda intended for the UK, she said: "My warning to them would be the Rwanda scheme was an expensive gimmick. And it won’t work".
On prison overcrowding, Ms Eagle did not rule out sending prisoners to Estonia, saying the Ministy of Justice was "considering all sorts of actions".
