The war between Israel and Hamas has been raging for over a year, despite diplomatic efforts to negotiate a cease-fire. Some civil society groups within Israel have also been calling for an end to the fighting.
They include Breaking the Silence, an organization made up of veteran Israeli soldiers whose goal it is to expose Israeli military abuses within the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
Yehuda Shaul, co-founder and former co-director of Breaking the Silence, joined DW in the studio. He is now co-director at the Israeli Center for Public Affairs.
