Chancellor Rachel Reeves says ‘"this wasn’t the budget I expected to deliver" as she announced Labour’s first budget in 14 years.
The chancellor set out an increase in taxes by £40bn, but tells Sky News it would be "irresponsible" to rule out further tax rises and that she is "not going to make a commitment to never change taxes again".
Talking to Sky’s political editor Beth Rigby, Ms Reeves says that Labour inherited a £22bn "black hole" and said a tax increase was needed to "put public finances on a sound trajectory" and "wipe the slate clean after the mess that the Conservatives have left us."
