The first three Israeli hostages to be released by Hamas under the new Gaza ceasefire agreement have returned to Israel.
Emily Damari, Doron Steinbrecher and Romi Gonen were delivered to Israeli army officials by the International Red Cross after being handed over by Hamas in Gaza. The women have also been reunited with their closest family members. They’re the first of 33 Israeli hostages set to be released during a six-week ceasefire now in effect in Gaza. Meanwhile, since the fighting paused early on Sunday, thousands of Gazans have been returning to what’s left of their homes. Aid trucks have also been arriving in Gaza with desperately needed supplies, but the situation is dire. We spoke to Laura Blumenfeld, Middle East Analyst at the Johns Hopkins University in Washington D.C., and the Senior Coordinator for UNICEF, Hamish Young.
