Syrian army takes control of Deir Hafer after YPG terror group withdraws

Syrian government forces have entered Deir Hafer in eastern Aleppo after the YPG terror group withdrew from areas west of the Euphrates, allowing displaced residents to begin returning home. Civilians say they’re relieved by the army’s arrival but they remain traumatised by the looting and hardship during YPG control, and tribal leaders have urged the remaining fighters to lay down their weapons. Authorities say reintegration into the state is still possible, though ongoing security operations continue amid concerns over lasting stability. Nour Qormosh reports from Aleppo’s Deir Hafer, Syria.
