Another American holiday ends in bloodshed. As of Sunday afternoon, at least 50 people have been shot across Chicago this 4th of July weekend – 6 of them fatally, including a 16-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy, and multiple others gunned down in mass shootings and drive-bys across the city. Victims range from teenagers to adults. Some were sitting in parked cars. Others were caught in crowds. One woman was killed during a robbery. Another man died in a vehicle in Cabrini-Green. Gunfire hit nearly every corner of the city: South Side, West Side, downtown. Source: ABC7, CPD

• That’s so much better than the 109 last year!! Good work Chicago!! Juneteenth was probably a good idea! It let them spread out the gunshot wounds between unknown Father’s Day, Juneteenth, and the 4th of July. Less stress on the hospitals too since their aim is so bad. – Joshua
• The news only reports these numbers on holidays, but similar violence happens weekly. We need sustained attention, not just seasonal outrage. I wish all families affected by this much strength.
