Syrian President Ahmed al Sharaa taps his bank card to make a payment a day after the US removed Syria from its state sponsors of terrorism list. The move ends 47 years of restrictions that limited Syria’s access to global banking and finance.
Washington says the delisting could help Damascus attract investment and support economic recovery. Al Sharaa hailed the move as the starting of a new chapter for reconstruction and development. Both Visa and Mastercard last operated in Syria more than 15 years ago.
