Life inside Iraq’s ‘Forbidden Zone’ controlled by Turkey | BBC News

The BBC has gained exclusive access to what locals call ‘The Forbidden Zone’ and can reveal the full extent of Turkey’s military expansion in Northern Iraq.

Turkey maintains that its military operation in Northern Iraq is targeted to Kurdish militant group the PKK, a militant Kurdish nationalist group proscribed by the UK and other governments.

Since 1984 the conflict has claimed more than 40,000 lives, many of them civilians.
